Rasoul Aghchehli of Iran celebrates a point

Brno / Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, June 24, 2017 – Rasoul Aghchehli steered Iran into the best eight teams of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship with a powerful performance against Ukraine on Saturday that signed him off with a fantastic 28-point tally and his team with the victory needed for booking their trip to Brno.

In addition to Iran, the teams of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Poland and Russia have now also secured their spots among the eight that will be competing for the medals next week at the DRFG Arena in Brno. The other two vacant spots will be filled on Sunday.

Pool A

On Saturday, both Canada and Poland scored their second wins in Brno and qualified for the next stage of the battles for top World Championship honours. The Czech Republic and Morocco, now with a 0-2 win-loss record each, will have to move to Ceske Budejovice and play for the ninth place in the next phases of the tournament.

Tariq Sani was the main contributor with 20 points to Canada’s 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) shutout of Morocco to start the second competition day in Brno. However, the North Americans had to wait for the result of the next match to be sure of their qualification.

It came with Poland also managing a 3-0 (29-26, 25-23, 25-13) win against the Czech Republic to reserve spots in the top eight both for themselves and for Canada.
