Team profile

USA

The U.S. Junior National Team won the 2016 NORCECA
Continental Championship with a 4-0 match record and a 12-1 set record. It
dropped one set to Cuba in the final. Several athletes on the roster have
played together since 2014, if not earlier. The Men’s Junior National Team has
competed at the FIVB World Championship eight times. Its best finish was fourth
in 2011 with a team that included Micah Christenson and Taylor Sander, who
would go on to win bronze medals at the 2016 Olympic Games. The U.S. has
finished 11th in the last two FIVB U21 World Championships.

Coach

Hosack, Jay

Hosack, Jay

Jay Hosack coached the 2016 U.S. Junior National Team to the
gold medal at the NORCECA Continental Championship, qualifying for the FIVB U21
World Championship. Before 2016, Hosack served as an assistant coach with the
Junior Team since 2012 and has also helped coach and scout for the U.S. Men’s
and Women’s National Teams.

Hosack was named head coach of the men’s volleyball team at
George Mason University in August of 2016. Prior to that, he had coached at
Penn State and UC Irvine among other places.
A member of the UC Santa Cruz men’s volleyball team from
1995-97, Hosack received his bachelor’s degree in sociology at UC Santa Cruz
and earned a Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia
University in Irvine, Calif.
