Great setting from Yatgin brings Turkey to first win in Brno

The Turkish team celebrate their first victory in Brno

Brno, Czech Republic, June 23, 2017 – Ogulcan Yatgin showcased his setting skills and nicely spread out his team’s offensive efforts in Turkey’s first match at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship on the way to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 30-28) victory over USA at the DRFG Arena in Brno.

Kyle Ensing was the best scorer of the match with 19 points for the United States. On the winning side, Adis Lagumdzija with 16 points, Batuhan Avci with 14 and Abdullah Cam with 12 made it into the double digits, as Turkey registered a 60% success rate in attack.

Turkey’s captain Abdullah Cam led his teammates to the win in the first set, scoring five points in attack, including the last one that shaped up the 25-19 close. In the second set the Americans made far too many unforced errors to help their opponents to a landslide 25-14 win. The Turks managed to cancel a solid USA lead in set 3. With Batuhan Avci spearheading their attack, they caught up at 23-23 to prompt an interesting ending. Eventually it was Cam who put the ball on the floor with a powerful spike to close the match at 30-28 Turkey’s way.
