Ukraine end Serbia’s unbeaten run at Euro World qualifiers

Ukraine's players and staff celebrate qualifying for the World Championship

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 20, 2017 – Ukraine ended Serbia’s unbeaten run at the CEV World Championship Qualifiers on Saturday and in doing so booked their place at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship that will take place in the Czech Republic from June 23-July 2.

The top two teams at the Qualifiers will reach the World Championship and that means that Poland and Germany will face off for the remaining place on Sunday because Pool F started a day later.

The two pools are split between German capital Berlin and Pozarevac in Serbia and the home crowd were left disappointed after Ukraine won 3-1 (26-24, 25-12, 18-25, 25-22) after 107 minutes.

Germany will be aiming for a grandstand finish in front of their supporters after they defeated Belgium 3-1 (25-22, 31-29, 18-25, 25-22), while Poland saw off Latvia 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-22).

France meanwhile finished with a win after two previous defeats when they beat Bulgaria 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 14-25, 25-21, 15-11).
