Poland shut out Cuba to triumph with U21 World Championship gold!

Poland triumph with the victory

Brno, Czech Republic, July 2, 2017 – Poland lived up to the expectations and won the title at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship Czech Republic 2017. Thousands of Polish fans travelled to Brno to support their team during the final match from the stands of the DRFG Arena and were not left disappointed. The inspired Polish squad was a like a fine-tuned machine and left no doubts about who deserves the gold medal. They handed Cuba a 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-19) shutout to defend their U19 world title from two years ago.

Outside spiker Bartosz Kwolek and opposite Jakub Ziobrowski were the best scorers for the winning side with 12 points each, while Cuba’s opposite Miguel David Gutierrez topped them with 15 points.

Poland’s captain Jakub Kochanowski made a perfect first set to lead his teammates to a comfortable 25-20 win. The second set was no contest. Polish setter Lukasz Kozub was doing a fabulous job on the court and for Kwolek it was not a problem to score five times in five attempts on the way to a 25-10 landslide. Tomasz Fornal was on fire in the third set to continue Poland’s complete domination on the court. The White-and-Reds broke away with a solid and cruised to the final 25-19, shaped up by Kochanowski with a powerful hit through the middle for the last point.
