Italy maintain top spot in Pool G

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, June 29, 2017 – Outside spiker Roberto Cominetti helped Italy to maintain their top spot in pool G after a five-set thriller (25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 18-25, 16-18) at the FIVB Men’s U21.

In the first set Czech Republic fell behind by five points. However it was the home team claiming the victory 25-23 in this set due to receiving errors on the Italian side of the field of play.

The Italians outplayed the Czech Republic in the second set and gave them no chance to level the score as they won 14-25.

Czechia picked up the third set fast thanks to Donovan Dzavoronok’s serving skills and took a 8-1 lead. Italy did not gave up as they managed a 16-16 score. However their play was not enough as the home team claimed the set.

From the second technical time-out onwards in the fourth set, Italy improved their play and levelled the score in set 2-2 by a 18-25 win.

The tie-break had to be the decider for the Italians and the home team. With match points for both teams, it was Italy who sealed the match 2-3.
